Conquering Premenstrual Syndrome(PMS)

Source: http://www.thebestlife.com/35-foods-that-help-fight-pms/

We are all guilty of having terrible mood swings when the red river arrives every month. So what can we do as females to curb not just our mood swings, but also the severe cramps and bloating that are associated with PMS? Here are some tips that we can all use to conquer PMS:

1. Walk it off

Although you may be bloated and may not feel to exercise, walking can help to stop severe cramps and reduce bloating. Studies have shown that women who exercise frequently experience less PMS symptoms.

2. Lower consumption of salt and sugar

Limit your intake of salt and sugar as they both contribute to bloating and mood swings. Choose healthy, natural foods and drink plenty water or add more watery foods such as watermelons or cucumbers to your diet. Herbal teas such as chamomile, dandelion and ginger can also contribute to your water intake.

3. Sleep

Because you may be more exhausted than normal before and during your period, it is important to get at least 8 hours of sleep each night. Caffeine and alcohol should be avoided to get a good night's rest.

4. Use heat

Lying down for 20 minutes with a heat pad or hot water bottle on your belly can help to alleviate pain and make you feel more energetic.

5. Add spice

Spices including saffron help to increase the level of seratonin, the feel-good chemical, which usually plummets prior to menstruation.

I hope these tips help you when shark week approaches next month. Please feel free to share your PMS remedies that work for you!
